The Senseo has changed the Dutch coffee culture forever

Journalist Jette Pellemans published an article in the Dutch newspaper NRC about the enduring popularity of the Senseo—not just a coffee machine, but a cultural phenomenon that has transformed the way the Netherlands enjoys its daily brew.

On February 1st, 2001, after six years of intensive development, the first Senseo was launched. In just four years, over 15 million units were sold worldwide. The Senseo distinguishes itself from the traditional filter coffee method by the use of coffee pads, the time saving of water supply under pressure, and a foam layer. The coffee pads can simply be bought in the supermarket.
